The "Global" Crew Claims Victory in the Season Opener
Torrente & Ustinov Dominate XCAT World Championship Race 1. Shaun Torrente and Konstantin Ustinov powered their way to victory in the XCAT World Championship opening race, proving to be the team to beat. The Sharjah Team, representing the UAE with its American Russian duo, delivered an outstanding performance, mastering the demanding conditions of Fujairah’s waters.
The course combined the challenges of open sea and lagoon racing, so the pilots’ precision in balancing the boat was crucial. Equally decisive was the strategic timing of their first long lap, which allowed them to seize the advantage at a key moment. Once they overtook the Victory Team’s Salem Al Adidi and Eisa Al Ali, the Sharjah Team extended their lead, controlling the race lap after lap.
This victory is even more remarkable considering that Konstantin Ustinov, originally a reserve driver, stepped in for Mikhail Kitashev, who suffered an injury after a dramatic airborne moment in free practice. Against a politically challenging time, the American and Russian pairing showcased unity, calling each other brothers in their shared pursuit of excellence on the water.
Victory Team secured P2 with relative ease, finishing ahead of Team GB, who struggled off the start despite securing pole position.
Tomorrow, Race 2 awaits. The Italian teams are looking for redemption after a tough day. The reigning world champions retired, while Blu Banca was disqualified for losing its engine cowling. Expect fierce competition as the championship battle intensifies.
